Amendments to the law in New South Wales have been made to assist victims of institutional child abuse. The law changes stem from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Civil Liability Amendment (Organisational Child Abuse Liability) Act 2018 introduces these changes. The objective of this legislation is to assist victims of church and other institutional child sexual abuses to commence legal proceedings to claim damages, ie compensation.
